Equipment

  • 1 microwave-safe mug
  • 1 Microwave
  • 1 Spoon

Ingredients

  • 2 tablespoons unsalted butter melted
  • 1 tablespoon brown sugar
  • 1 tablespoon granulated sugar
  • 1 egg yolk (from a large egg)
  • 0.25 teaspoon alcohol-free vanilla extract
  • 3 tablespoons all-purpose flour
  • 0.125 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1 pinch salt
  • 2 tablespoons chocolate chips semisweet or milk

Instructions

  • Place the butter in a microwave-safe mug and heat until just melted. Let it cool for a few seconds.

  • Stir in the flour, baking soda, and salt until well combined.
  • Gently mix in the chocolate chips so they're evenly distributed.
  • Microwave the mug for 40 to 55 seconds. The cookie should look just set with a few gooey spots but not overly dry.

Notes

This treat is best enjoyed fresh, right out of the microwave. If you have leftovers, cover the mug and store at room temperature for up to 1 day. To reheat, microwave for 10-15 seconds until warmed through.
Variations: Swap chocolate chips for white chocolate, peanut butter chips, nuts, or add cocoa powder. Sprinkle sea salt on top if desired.
Serving suggestions: Top with ice cream or a drizzle of chocolate/caramel sauce.
