Equipment

  • 1 Large Skillet
  • 1 Spoon

Ingredients

  • 1 lb ground beef or ground turkey for a lighter option
  • 4 cups cooked rice white, brown, or jasmine rice all work well
  • 0.25 cup soy sauce
  • 2 tbsp brown sugar or honey
  • 3 cloves garlic minced
  • 1 tbsp fresh ginger minced
  • 1 tbsp sesame oil
  • 0.25 tsp red pepper flakes optional
  • 2 tbsp green onions sliced
  • 1 tbsp sesame seeds for finishing
  • 2 cups broccoli, carrots, or snap peas for serving

Instructions

  • Prepare your rice according to the package directions. Fluff it with a fork and keep it warm while you make the beef.
  • Set a large skillet over medium-high heat and cook the ground beef until browned, breaking it up with a spoon as it cooks. Drain any excess fat if needed.
  • Stir in the garlic and ginger, then add the soy sauce, brown sugar, sesame oil, and red pepper flakes if using. Let the mixture simmer for a few minutes so the sauce thickens slightly and coats the beef.
  • Spoon rice into meal prep containers or serving bowls, then top with the beef mixture. Add vegetables, sprinkle with green onions and sesame seeds, and serve warm.

Notes

Use a hot skillet so the beef browns well instead of steaming. A good sear adds deeper flavor and makes the final bowl taste more satisfying.
If you are meal prepping, let the beef cool before sealing containers. This helps keep the rice from getting soggy.
For the best texture, store the rice, beef, and vegetables separately when you can, then combine them after reheating.
Store leftovers in airtight containers in the refrigerator for up to 4 days. For best results, keep the rice and beef in separate containers from any fresh toppings.
